Ashgabat

Met the new additions to our group this morning. There are 15 newcomers. Canadians, Aussies, Brits, Swiss, and one more American...yippee!

We went to the Sunday market, camel auction, and outdoor market. It was huge, clean, and crowded. The camels and goats were a lot of fun!

Next we did a city tour of the new city. The architecture was amazing...and at the same time a bit surreal. Massive new towers, six lane streets, and beautiful gardens and fountains. The only thing missing were people and cars. It was as if no one occupied the buildings. Our guide was a bit mysterious in answering our questions. It was a holiday and there was literally no one around. Weird!

We finished our day at the local circus. Lots of clowns and acrobats. A few horses and trained dogs and goats. And the entrance fee was $0.75!

Back at the hotel our original seven had a going away party for Katherine and finished off the last of the Georgian wine. It was a great day, a long day, and the start of yet another adventure. Tomorrow we head into the heart of the Karakum desert and the gas crater.
